OOIDA calls for a resignation for FMCSA’s administrator Ferro!
OOIDA has sent in a letter, after a unanimous vote from their board of directors, to the FMCSA to request a resignation from the administrator, Anne Ferro. They feel that Ferro is failing to make decisions about rules impartially. Her recent statement to the departments blog site “Fast Lane” on June 3, 2014 has her stating that the FMCSA, and the Administrator herself, view truckers not as committed professionals but as accidents waiting to happen, and that the only way to prevent these accidents is through more rules, more enforcement, and the continued treatment of truckers as a whole as if they are criminally negligent.”
What happened to the adage of you are innocent until proven guilty. Taking the mistake of some people and judging the whole has happened in many areas. OOIDA is hoping this will get her to resign her position and put someone less biased in charge of running the department. The tone she has in her blogs have lead many truckers to believe that she views them as people wanting to cause accidents on purpose.
In April they have decided to move forward with a bill to increase insurance minimums to encourage safer driving. But a question to ask is will this work? Or will this significant cost increase force proven, safe truck drivers to leave their business and let it be filled by younger, less experienced, fly by night drivers? How do you feel about all the new imposed rules enforced on trucking?
